DisabilityRightsNow.com Launched to Raise Funds for Historically Excluded People with Disabilities estimated at 26% in U.S. from the Legal Field to Assist Entering the Practice

San Diego, California - DisabilityRightsNow.com (DRN) an approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to address the underrepresentation of people with disabilities in the legal field has launched. According to the American Bar Association Profile of the Legal Profession 2021, roughly 1% of attorneys in American Law firms have a disability. Yet according to the CDC Sixty one million (61,000,000) Americans or 26 percent of the U.S. population has a disability.

Historical discrimination of people with disabilities being excluded from the legal field is a dark chapter in the history of the U.S. legal system. This is especially true because the American with Disabilities Act is more than 30 years old now and little has changed in getting people with disabilities employed in the legal field. The overall treatment of people with disabilities in the U.S. includes forced segregation, medical experiments, unequal educational opportunities and lack of reasonable accommodations in schools, colleges, law schools, law firms, government agencies and the courts.

DRN founded by disability activist Peter A. Lynch with his firm’s gracious continued support and a group of eclectic advisors to raise funds to address the lack of people with disabilities in the legal field. Kendra Muller a brilliant third year law student at USD Law who just happens to have a disability is one of the advisors for DRN.

DRN will work collaboratively with the Different Abilities Group of the San Diego Bar Association established in 2016 to seek to increase representation of people with disabilities at all levels of the legal field (receptionist, paralegal, office management, accounting, attorneys, managers, secretaries, etc.)

DRN seeks financial contributions that are tax deductible to support identified candidates seeking to work in the legal field. DRN also seeks volunteers to assist in addressing the critical underrepresentation of people with disabilities in the legal field.
